Disclosure Tiers and Detection Methods
YouTube is working with music partners and using its own detection tools to identify AI-generated music. According to the company, partners can declare their use of generative AI through three specific designations:
- Fully Gen AI: Applies to tracks that are entirely generated by AI.
- Partly Gen AI: Refers to works where artists may have incorporated AI-generated components but added their own live elements.
- No Gen AI: Identifies tracks that do not fall into either AI-generated category. This includes tracks edited using conventional audio processing techniques such as pitch correction with Auto-Tune.
The disclosure process is optional for partners. However, YouTube states that it may use "other signals" to determine if a song is AI-generated even if no declaration is provided. The platform also utilizes SynthID watermarking for content created with Google AI and may use C2PA metadata, which is used by many other AI music creators.
