Cybercab and Texas Operations
The factory produced its first Cybercab in February 2026. Unlike a conventional passenger vehicle, the two-seat Cybercab has no steering wheel or pedals and relies on autonomous driving technology.
Tesla’s third-quarter update listed installed annual production capacity exceeding 125,000 Cybertrucks and 125,000 Cybercabs at Gigafactory Texas. The automaker cautioned that installed capacity does not represent its actual manufacturing rate.
The same report said Tesla began offering Cybercab robotaxi rides in Austin on September 3 and had accumulated nearly 2 million miles of unsupervised Robotaxi service by the end of the quarter. The mileage figure reflects Tesla’s overall robotaxi service, not Cybercab vehicles alone.
Tesla began rolling out unsupervised robotaxi service in Dallas and Houston in April. That expansion used Model Y vehicles, not Cybercabs.
The Cybercab faces a federal compliance review. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an audit query in September to examine whether Tesla properly certified a vehicle without conventional driver controls under federal safety standards. The inquiry did not establish that Cybercab violated those standards.
