Family and Community Response
Harrell’s family stated that the high school senior was working on what was supposed to be his day off. His mother, Denisha Dennis, spoke to CBS affiliate KHOU 11 about the loss.
“He did not have to go out like this. He didn’t have to be murdered,” Dennis said. “He did not deserve this at all.”
Dennis expressed her desire for justice, stating, “I want the kid responsible; I want justice for my son, because I don’t have my son no more.”
Harrell’s sister, Kourtnee Dennis, also spoke to KHOU 11, expressing her confusion and grief. “I’m hurt, because I just don’t understand how you can just take someone’s life like that,” she said. “I don’t know what happened in the bathroom, I don’t know what [transpired], but I feel like he didn’t deserve to be murdered.”
The family and friends gathered to remember Harrell, who planned to become a welder after graduation, releasing balloons in his memory.
