OpenAI Raises $11 Billion at $1.25 Trillion Valuation
OpenAI has raised $11 billion in a new funding round that values the company at $1.25 trillion, Bloomberg reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter. Reuters reported the same figures from its own source. Investors wired the funds on November 6, according to Bloomberg's sources as cited by SiliconANGLE. The backers were not named.
The $11 billion is the first close of a round that has not yet closed. Bloomberg reported that it could total about $20 billion and close in the coming weeks, meaning up to $9 billion more could come in. OpenAI had not commented when TechCrunch published its report.
In late September, Bloomberg reported that OpenAI was seeking $30 billion at a valuation of about $1.4 trillion. The first close came in below both the target size and the hoped-for valuation.
The valuation is 47% higher than the $852 billion set in March, when OpenAI raised $122 billion in a round led by Nvidia, Amazon and SoftBank. OpenAI was valued at $500 billion in October 2025.
The Financial Times reported last month that OpenAI ended the quarter with $50 billion in annualized revenue, up 77% from a year earlier, with enterprise sales more than doubling. President Greg Brockman told The Wall Street Journal that growth slowed in the first half of 2026 and picked up after the June launch of GPT-5.6 Sol.
OpenAI had earlier suggested it could go public this year but pushed those plans back, and a listing is now expected in 2027. Brockman said this week the company could be IPO-ready in 2027. The new money should help fund infrastructure spending until then. The Information reported in July that OpenAI had more than $665 billion in chip and data center commitments.
On the same day, Bloomberg reported that potential buyers of Anthropic's IPO shares were considering a valuation as low as $1.1 trillion, down from expectations of about $2 trillion roughly a month earlier. Anthropic is hoping for $1.5 trillion, but some investors consider that unrealistic, The Wall Street Journal reported. Anthropic is expected to start its IPO process next week and aims to list before Thanksgiving, according to the Financial Times.
TechCrunch tied the recent market jitters to the Democratic midterm results and voter opposition to data centers, which has raised expectations of future regulation. Microsoft, which has joined at least four earlier OpenAI rounds, is among possible participants in the current one, SiliconANGLE noted; no investor has been confirmed.
