Doncic and Lakers Performance
Luka Doncic entered the game as the league's top scorer, averaging 38.3 points per game and ranking third in assists with an average of 8.1. During the game, Doncic recorded 40 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and six turnovers. His scoring progressed from 10 points in the first quarter to 13 in the second, 12 in the third, and five in the fourth. He finished the game shooting 11-of-23 from the field and made six three-pointers.
Other contributors for the Lakers included:
- Austin Reaves: 21 points
- Walker Kessler: 15 points on six-for-eight shooting, eight rebounds, and three blocks
Lakers coach JJ Redick commented on Doncic's impact beyond scoring, stating, “Well, you brought up the leadership,” Redick said. “I think that’s where I’ve seen a lot of growth from him. Talking to his teammates…. We like to give that first minute to the players just to kind of talk to each other. And we’ve seen a lot of back and forth and it’s been really healthy. So I love that from our team and from Luka. He’s leading that right now.”
Additionally, Lakers forward Adou Thiero, who has been out with a left knee injury, practiced with the Coachella Valley Lakers on Wednesday and reportedly "came out of well," according to Redick.
