The Announcement
The news was revealed during the Monday Night Football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles on ESPN. Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, has served as the producer of the Super Bowl halftime show through his entertainment company, Roc Nation, since 2019. This marks the first time he will perform at the championship game himself.
In a statement regarding the announcement, Jay-Z said, "From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey."
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that the league had long hoped for this outcome. "When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him," Goodell said. "I couldn’t be more excited for fans around the world to experience the artistry, creativity and cultural impact he will bring to the Super Bowl stage."
