Actress Dafne Keen has shared details regarding her experiences as a child actor, including encounters with drugs and the nature of her fame following her role in the film 'Logan'.
During an appearance on the Inside of You podcast with host Michael Rosenbaum, Keen discussed her relationship with alcohol and drugs. She stated that she has little interest in using substances, noting, “I don’t think I’ve ever been drunk enough to even have a hangover. I’m such a control freak with that.”
Keen attributed this lack of interest to her experiences while working as a child actor. She recalled, “I was getting offered coke at wrap parties... Like, tiny. Like 11, 12, 13. So I saw what that was, so I was like, ‘I don’t really have any interest in that …’ I was saying no, fortunately.”
Keen also mentioned that she used to lie about being intoxicated during her teenage years to avoid peer pressure. “I did used to lie as a teenager so that I wouldn’t get peer pressured,” she said. “I’d be like, ‘Nah, I’m good. I don’t wanna drink. I already took something.’ Dead sober. Like, the goodest goody-two-shoes ever.” Despite this, she noted that she enjoys going out "just for the vibes, just ‘cause I like music and I like dancing and I like people," but prefers to remain sober.
Keen also addressed the more difficult aspects of her sudden rise to fame. She described receiving unwanted attention from adult male fans, stating, "I experienced quite a lot of very creepy um p******** men who would send letters and Bibles to my house and music boxes and would like follow me to school."
She described the experience of having strangers appear at her school in Madrid as "terrifying" and "scary," noting that people would show up with "pop cameras."
To manage these experiences, Keen shared advice from her grandmother, explaining, "A bad person is like someone with a drum in a waiting room. They're just really loud. But there's another 30 people who are being perfectly quiet and respectful."
Reflecting on her time filming Logan, where she played the character Laura (X-23), Keen spoke highly of her co-star Hugh Jackman. She described him as a "parental figure" and stated, “He gave me a lot of really positive reinforcement and a lot of really good advice. And he was always so lovely.”
Keen credited Jackman with looking out for her well-being on set. “He made sure that no one was abusing my hours, that I was having fun on set, that I wasn’t aware of any tensions that would’ve been happening behind the scenes. He was so incredibly protective and amazing,” she said.
She also noted that the production team treated her with respect despite her age. “They were all really good on that set at making me really feel like a grownup and making me really feel like a respectable artist,” Keen said. “My opinion really felt like it mattered. If I said I thought something about a scene, people would think about it.”
